Since wearing diapers, J. King has been playing and performing music and excelling on a number of instruments including vocals/drums/guitars/keyboards/djing/samplers. He has been playing in front of audiences since age 11 and has made music his life. With extensive tours, videos and recordings under his belt, he is definitely no stranger to the industry.

Practically living in a music studio since childhood recording and producing albums, songs, beats and instrumentals, J. King has been studying and perfecting that “Big budget” sound that a lot of artists are chasing. With the assistance of top notch gear, studio expertise, playing chops and of course the “ear”, he guarantees that you will get the sound you’re looking for at an affordable price.

Bio

Vancouver Music Producer

“As far back as I can remember, music has been a huge part of my life. I was a drummer as soon as I could swing my arms… Banging on pots and pans with wooden spoons until the age of 4, where I got my first practice pad set. My dad was a touring musician back then, so there was always a basement with a full setup of instruments.”

The journey was only beginning.  King obsessively took up many instruments to a proficient level before singing and fronting his own projects.  Teaming up with LSR studios early on, he took on an engineering and producer role where he caught the recording bug for good and hasn’t looked back.  He’s since built his 5 room studio, accumulating gear while always increasing his studio chops with an insatiable quest for music knowledge both on the creative and technical sides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Vancouver Recording, Mixing, and Mastering Services

If you have any questions about the recording process or scheduling, please contact Jay at info@kingsdenstudios.com or call 778-896-8731. The goal is to make your song making an enjoyable, comfortable and fun experience at the King’s Den!

Whether you are seasoned in the studio or new to the whole experience, you may have some questions before you choose your producer/engineer. After all, it’s your art and you want your songs sounding as great as they can. There’s no doubt in my mind that we’ll take them even higher as this has been the case for every song I’ve ever worked on.

Here are a few questions I have answered but of course don’t hesitate to email or call.

How long does it take to record and how much is this going to cost me?
Of course! The bottom line. There are multiple variables that determine the length of a project including:

  • Genre
  • Instrumentation
  • Live playing vs. Programmed
  • Editing involved
  • Preparation vs. Writing in studio
  • Song length and amount of songs

The big one would probably be your overall vision for the song/album. Depending on your budget/time constraints etc… Are you looking for something of “demo” quality or very polished and radio ready??

A “demo” or “live off the floor” can be recorded and done in 1-3 days whereas a polished radio ready song can take a bit longer. I can work on an hourly or a per song or per project basis. Sometimes this is the best route as you can relax knowing you’re song(s) will get the finest treatment without worrying about the clock all day.

Do you offer package deals?
Of course! Usually the more songs you record, the cheaper your final project will become on a per song basis. This is usually the result of most of your settings being “dialed in” on your compressors, preamps, EQ’s etc.
I am a singer/songwriter/rapper with lyrics. Can you provide me with the music?
Big time! This is the best part of the gig for me. We will communicate by your preferred method and I will “vibe” you out so to speak. Usually after getting a few of your influences together and a good feel for your message/vision/tastes etc…, I can whip up some musical beds for you and see what you’re feeling. I can also help out with the lyrics if you need.

Having sold multiple CD’s and digital singles, worldwide radio airplay and a few songwriting awards under my belt, you are most definitely in good hands.

I also sell instrumentals and beats here, if you are out of the Vancouver area.

Do you have a “specialty” or “preference” when it comes to genre?
None whatsoever. Every song is kind of a puzzle. No matter how it is birthed, a song isn’t complete till it’s complete. The journey getting there is the fun part. I do keep my ear to the ground and stay current at all times with the musical trends, new production techniques and hit makers of the day.
Do you offer instrumentals & beats?
For sure! Check out the instrumentals & beats link to check out all of King’s Den Studios beats and instrumentals for lease or ownership.
Do you offer mixing and mastering services?
Yes I do. These are the final touches before your song is issued to the world. Feel free to contact me and we’ll see at what stage your song(s) are at and what we can do to give them that professional touch to sound amazing on all music systems.
